History

Foundation year

FISA was founded by Ubaldo and Edda De Simon, beginning its activity as a manufacturer of coach seats.

The earthquake

In 1976, an earthquake struck the Osoppo and Gemona area, largely destroying the region, including our company. In 1978, the factory was rebuilt and resumed operations at the same location where it still stands today.

Expansion

During a period of severe crisis for the Italian market, FISA established a decade-long partnership with the German Grammer Group, transferring driver seat production from Amberg to Osoppo.

New FS Seat

In 1999, FISA developed a new family of railway passenger seats, the “FS”. At the time, this concept was extremely innovative, being the first railway passenger seat based on a single self-supporting metal shell.

Economic crisis

The economic crisis affected FISA in 2010, resulting in losses of approximately 40% and the bankruptcy of many of our customers, leaving €3 million in unpaid receivables, of which only €1 million was recovered.

Lean Seat

Launched in 2010 and based on the FS model, the innovative LEAN railway seat features a self-supporting metal shell only 1.2 mm thick, making it one of the lightest seats on the market.

Frecciarossa 1000

FISA was selected as the sole supplier for the development and supply of seats for the new ETR 1000, the new high-speed train for the Italian market.

Lean

In 2013, the LEAN seat project was finally completed and entered production for contracts with our customers Stadler, Pesa, and CAF.

UK Crash Test

The new LEAN seat successfully passed the tests required for entry into the UK market. This made it possible to secure a major Stadler project called “Greater Anglia”, strengthen our presence, and acquire additional projects in that market.

UK

In 2018, the first deliveries for the “Greater Anglia” project with Stadler began in the UK, representing a value of approximately €10 million over two years.

IMET

In 2020, the acquisition of one of our competitors, IMET, was completed. This acquisition was strategic because it enabled us to expand our product portfolio and increase production capacity. Today, IMET focuses on the production of tables and seats for high-speed trains.

Rebranding

The merger of FISA and IMET into a single entity, FISA, providing even greater strength to the brand.
